Virginia Tech believes that openness is the future of higher education. Openness
ensures greater dissemination, inclusiveness, and integrity for the
advancement of knowledge and the education of the next generation.
On January 2019, Virginia Tech Library launched an awesome booklet that introduces a few of the many open resources you can
find in and through the Library. You can download the booklet in this link .
The first section, “For Scholars,”
highlights the wealth of open scholarship in the Library’s collections
as well as tools we make available to researchers for writing and
publishing open scholarship. The second section, “For Instructors
and Students,” focuses on tools and resources specifically aimed at
making learning accessible, abundant, and customizable for all.
These resources, tools, and services, plus a great deal more, can be
found on the Library website by visiting lib.vt.edu/open-access and
Open@VT, blogs.lt.vt.edu/openvt.
Throughout the booklet tools and resources marked in maroon,
orange, and grey indicate the following:
- Maroon are resources provided by VT.
- Orange are tools supported by VT.
- Grey are resources created at VT
Hi Nayara,
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for your post. I really appreciate having these links (I've saved them) and I hope the open access platform continues to grow for scholars, instructors and students.
Thanks Nayara for sharing. The color coding of the open resources is an interesting idea that I didn't know about !
ReplyDeleteThanks for the good info. I wonder if I have just been hiding under a rock and missed this announcement. What a cool idea. I think this is would be directly translatable to other schools as well!
ReplyDeleteThese are great! I love that our libraries are really forward looking in so many different ways.
ReplyDeleteHey thanks for sharing this. Open access is the future. Unfortuanetly by buying publications we are only making few individual richer and making access for the students difficult. These types of systems further marginalizes the vulnerable populations.
ReplyDeleteThanks Nayara for sharing this. To be honest, I did not know about this. This is a great thing what VT is doing.
ReplyDeleteMany thanks Nayara! I also saved this, how nice it is to learn VT's effort for openness. It is useful both for students and us!
ReplyDeleteSuch a valuable information! thank you for sharing this. I wish all vt students could get an email about this.

ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing these resources Nayara. It is clear that Virginia Tech is making an effort in making knowledge open. But a question that came to my mind is that these resources are open to whom? Virginia Tech students only? or to any person seeking knowledge? We don't have to forget that students are paying tuition and fees in order to be able to learn and get a college degree. The thing that makes it open only for students who can afford these tuition or can have any kind of assistantship or scholarship.(Maha)
ReplyDeleteGreat post with helpful links! I'll be using this for the rest of my lit review for sure.
